Projects
KCC’s work focuses in four primary project areas: Clean Energy, Climate Action, Biodiversity and Land Conservation
Clean and Sustainable Energy
The focus of this project is to educate the public at large, key decision-makers and allies, and advocate for policies to build more support for clean energy including large and small scale solar, wind, and hydro, as well as energy storage for renewables. We also advocate for energy efficiency initiatives that reduce our energy impact and improve our energy resiliency throughout the Commonwealth.
Climate Action
The future of our planet is at a critical point: We must reach 80% reduction in greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions by 2050 to keep global temperature increases under 2°C (3.6°F). While most efforts toward this goal have been focused on reducing fossil fuel use, new science shows natural climate solutions—based on the conservation, restoration and management of forests, grasslands and wetlands—can deliver up to 37% of the needed emission reductions by 2030. Combined with wider adoption of renewable energy and other technologies, natural climate solutions are essential to keeping our climate safe.
Weather events have already demonstrated more flooding events in Louisville and other river cities. The unpredictability of these events create challenges for disaster preparedness, agriculture, and human health.
Working with our Foundation, we provide conservation briefs such as, “Key Steps for Climate Action in Kentucky”
Biodiversity Education
This project consists of providing information to the public and build support for Kentucky’s rare and threatened plants and animals, as well as celebrating Kentucky’s unique biodiversity. Our work consists of public education events, research and whitepapers designed to promote Kentucky’s unique range of plants, animals and biota and support efforts to conserve what is native and threatened.
Land and Water Conservation
This project consists of providing support for land conservation initiatives such as conservation easements, and increase awareness of the importance of Kentucky’s lands and waters, and to help coordinate important legislative and conservation efforts among outdoor recreation, tourism, agriculture and environmental interests.
