Tree Week in Kentucky

Tree Week in Kentucky

Tree Week kicked off on October 6th and includes many exciting events. The University of Kentucky Urban Forest Initiative has a week of programs that you can find here that includes educational events, tree walks, planting projects and more. Plus they have also collected information on regional events in a dozen other locations from Berea to Hopkinsville, to Somerset and more. You can find that full list of events across Kentucky here.

Drive Electric

This event followed on the heels of the national Drive Electric Week, which ended on October 1st. But the electric vehicle revolution in Kentucky continues. On October 5th, Governor Andy Beshear announced the first round of awards for developers to design, build, operate and maintain a statewide network of EV charging stations as part of the state’s plan under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program.  A full list of approved developers and locations is available here. And for further reading on the growth of the electric vehicle market, we suggest this article from the Rocky Mountain Institute.

What’s all the Noise About?

We appreciate today’s article from the Kentucky Lantern on the latest communities impacted by crypto mining. Aside from the huge energy use of these operations (which KCC has been alerting our members to for several years now after tax breaks were passed in the legislature for this industry) these operations can produce tremendous noise pollution as well. We visited this site last week, which is only seven miles from the peace and quiet of the Red River Gorge geological area, and found the noise level to be continually disruptive. Crypto mining operations are known for often locating in rural areas with lax restrictions on noise impacts. You can find more about the legislative history and helpful tools on KCC’s Cryptocurrency Mining page on our website.
